Near the end of 2025, I read that the San Siro stadium in Milan was going to be redeveloped/replaced by a new stadium. This is a shame but all good things come to an end and hopefully the new stadium that replaces it will have a lot of the flair and visual appeal that the existing one has – it always reminds me of a spaceship having just landed.
So I’ve taken this chance to add some further information on this development plus all my best photos of the San Siro stadium, both exterior and interior photos.
I’ve also added a San Siro album to my Picfair.com site, in case you would like to buy any of these photos of the San Siro experience.

Further information on San Siro and the redevelopment
Existing San Siro stadium
- An iconic football stadium, looks great from any angle, eye-catching style like a recently landed space ship
- Nicknamed La Scala del Calcio (opera house of football)
- Seating capacity of 75,817
- Home stadium of AC Milan and Inter
- Usually known as San Siro by AC Milan fans and the Stadio Meazza by Inter fans
New stadium
- Expected to hold around 71,500
- New stadium will be built adjacent to the existing San Siro allowing it to continue to operate during part of the build process
Timeline
- 2025 – City Council approved sale to AC Milan and Inter
- 2027 – Target year for groundbreaking of the new stadium
- 2030-31 – Expected opening of the new stadium
Post-opening – demolition of most of old San Siro, preserving select parts (mind you, they said that about the new Wembley Stadium at the start, would be keeping the twin towers, then destroyed them)
