Quick and easy ways to improve your smartphone photos

Most recent smartphones, whether iOS or Android, tend to have very sophisticated cameras. Below are some quick and easy ways to improve your smartphone photos, which you might already know of, but are very handy to know – and use – if not…

The first suggestion is to turn on the Level feature in the Camera app on your smartphone.

This will display a kind of spirit level in the camera display when taking new photos, allowing you to level up your photos.

The camera level option seems to have been around a while in both iOS and Android, but is one that’s easy to miss, as in most cases. you have to manually turn it on.

The second suggestion is to turn on the Grid feature in the Camera app on your smartphone.

This will overlay a grid in the camera display, allowing you to compose your shot and also apply the rule of thirds when required.

The grid is a visible guide only displayed when taking photos and will not appear in your photos.

Note: In Android 15, I’ve found the options to turn on level and grid are in the following place – open the Camera app – then Settings – General section – Capture assistant – then can see the options = Assistive Grid and Leveller. This location for the settings could be specific to my Motorola Razr phone and/or Android 15.
